“Never Grow Up” is a conscious hip-hop track that praises the child-like joys of creativity. A mellow piano track supports the vocals of Indigo and Taj Angelo, an Oakland singer and producer who adds his soulful harmonies to the proceedings. “We use our a cappella-like moments to frame my white girl rapping,” Indigo says with a smile.
lyrics
VERSE 1
Never grow up, always show up
As the kid holding in tiny hand the magic cup
Be freeform, soul keep warm, now is the season
Climb up your neighbors trees for no good reason
Shower them with lazer beams, continue to tease them
Embrace your innocence, infant wonder
Immerse your daily life in all that’s to discover
Be open, a bit wild, release the inner child
Stick your thumb in the pie and lick it with such vigor
Tell em it’s the best you’ve tasted while givin them the finger
VERSE 2
Walk barefoot, on tree roots
Feeling soil seeping in between cracks of your hooves
Be alert, it might hurt, this path you’re walking
Have no fear, its all here
Continually unfolding like the petals of a flower
Now is the hour and the time we have been waiting for
Come lie down, on bare ground, one with earth below you
Just listen, and tune in, she has much to show you
Go back now, when as child, y’witnessed mother nature
And wer’awed by her presence and bowed down to respect her
Get up now, dance round how, like a rainbow dragon would
Pick your nose, smear on clothes, sway the way the wind blows
Now is the hour and the time we have been waiting for
VERSE 3
Breakthrough, renew, expand into the laughter
Go on, let go, this is what we’re after
Stay young, in mind, flesh and bone don’t matter
Spirit soar forever more, no need to limit here
Never grow up, your gifts will show up
If you are allowing space to appear
Nourish every moment let the channels be clear
Grab the chance, make new plans
Form a silly project with some friends
Take the show on the road, there’s no dead end
Never grow up, never grow up, never grow up, never grow up
